For an insight into the rural history of Western Australia’s Coral Coast, visit Carnamah Historical Museum, housed in one the town’s many historic stone buildings.
Dongara’s Old Police Station
A visit to the Old Police Station, which is now the Irwin District Museum, is a must.
WA Museum
Geraldton’s WA museum offers a fascinating insight into the rich natural, social and maritime history of Western Australia’s Coral Coast. Learn about the Dutch shipwreck, Batavia, and the ancient culture of the Yamati people. A hilltop memorial to the lost sailors of the HMAS Sydney maritime disaster in 1941 also holds an important place in the region’s history books.
Chiverton House Museum
Constructed in the late 1800s, Northampton’s Chiverton House Museum showcases a large range of artefacts and photographs as well as restored farm machinery.
Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery Centre
Celebrating the bio-diversity of the region’s heritage listed eco-systems, Shark Bay’s World Heritage Discovery Centre explores the area’s natural landscapes, bays, islands, lagoons, marine and terrestrial landforms and animals.
Hamelin Pool stromatolites
and telegraph station
When visiting the Hamlin Pool stromatolites there is an excellent viewing platform out over the water featuring interpretive displays. Nearby, the Hamlin Pool Telegraph Station also houses a small museum.
